Sports is broadly defined as a collection of athletic activities that are performed for fun, for competition, for money or both. Today, there are numerous different types of sports. The most popular ones are played by people of all ages and can be broadly categorized into two groups: contact sports and non-contact sports. Today, it is not uncommon to see people watching high-level competitive sporting matches or participating in high level organized competitions. Sport can be of various types. Body-building sports, motor sports, endurance sports, racquet sports, and sport-related activities are a few of the many categories. In recent years, football has become one of the most popular non-physical sports in the USA.

Sports recreation and exercise are different from sports in which participants engage in physical fitness activities but do not actively use their body for competitive purposes. Sports recreation is generally an activity undertaken for leisure and fitness, but is occasionally used as a method of competition. Examples include horse racing, swimming, cycling, golf, tennis, badminton, tennis, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, badminton, surfing, skiing and sailing. Sportive activity may also refer to participation in organized games or activities, where participants may compete or participate together as a team. Examples of these types of recreational activities are ice skating, basketball, ice fishing, beach volleyball, synchronized swimming, track and field, motorized snowboarding, bowling, hockey, softball.

USA Ultimate Soccer (USAS) is an association of approximately 1200 member organizations from across the country, who are committed to promoting a higher standard of play and joining together to enhance the quality of sport in the United States. It was founded in 1982 with the purpose of establishing a recognized, professional sport for American youth. In its early years, USAS held nothing more than friendly tournaments to test the level of skill of participants. Today it is known as the “voice of the sport” for American youth participation. USAS is governed by its eight national governing bodies: the United States Sport and Exercise Association (USESOA), the National Soccer Hall of Fame (NSHF), The United States Olympic Committee (USOC), the National Soccer Association (NAS) and the United States Tennis Association (USTA). These organizations administer the USA Ultimate Soccer Rules and have responsibility for collecting payment for tournament prizes and awards.

USAFA is a not for profit, nonprofit membership organization, whose primary purpose is to promote the recognition of American sport and develop its international profile. Among its eight national governing bodies are the US Chess and US Badminton Association (USCAA). USAFA also works in partnership with the NCAA, the Continental League and the United States Open Professional Golf Association (USOPG). As an official participant in the International Olympic Committee, USFAA is one of six associate members to the Olympic movement in North America. As an official member of USOC, USAFA is responsible for managing the business affairs of the association football division, overseeing its management and maintaining a sound financial record.
